Now in its eleventh year, San Francisco Performances’ annual PIVOT Festival is eagerly anticipated by audiences and critics for its fresh, delightful sampling of captivating and compelling music of our time.

Guest curated this year by Andy Meyerson of San Francisco’s own The Living Earth Show, these three programs offer a thrilling and intimate survey of the networks, interconnections, and impacts of new music.

Jan 30 Legacies

7:30pm at Herbst Theater

In this evening of multidimensional art songs synthesizing chamber music, alternative rock, experimental electronic music, contemporary classical music, and musical theater, vocalist Tanner Porter joins The Living Earth Show guitarist Travis Andrews and percussionist Andy Meyerson in the premiere performances by Sleeping Giant Composer Collective (Timo Andres, Christopher Cerrone, Jacob Cooper, Ted Hearne, Robert Honstein, and Andrew Norman), and a former student of each member (Daniel Castellanos, Nathaniel Parks, Christina George, Rohan Chander, Akshaya Avril Tucker, and Anuj Bhutani) — some of this generation's most exciting voices in composition.

Jan 31 Satellite Program: Roar Shack @ Herbst

7:30pm at Herbst Theater

The Satellite Program features the premiere of ambitious and uncompromising new bands created by three of the most innovative, important, and interesting artists in the Bay Area: Bucket List (featuring composer/musician Mark Applebaum) Koollooꓘ (featuring dancer/choreographer Babatunji & composer/inventor Dennis Aman), and Trust Me (featuring vocalist/author Lynnee Breedlove). Each band was built at The Roar Shack—The Living Earth Show’s performance incubator in Mid Market.

Feb 1 Parallel Play

7pm at Taube Atrium Theater

A virtuosic and vulnerable tour de force, Parallel Play is a recital for solo dancer and solo percussionist choreographer/dancer Myles Thatcher and percussionist Andy Meyerson exploring the past, present, and future of their respective disciplines.

In this world premiere performance, Thatcher will dance six new solos choreographed for this project by Merce Cunningham, Robin Dekkers, Rex Wheeler (aka Lady Camden), Dani Rowe, Babatunji, and Thatcher himself. Each will be paired with six percussion solos performed by Meyerson, written by John Cage, Glenn Kotche, Nicole Lizée, Danny Clay, Raven Chacon, and J.S. Bach.
