Why I Like Dead Guys

Why I Like Dead Guys is the debut album by Trust Me, a new band featuring queer storyteller Lynn Breedlove, guitarist Travis Andrews, and percussionist Andy Meyerson. A satellite project of The Living Earth Show, Trust Me centers this first album on the unfathomable tragedy Breedlove experienced in 2020: the brutal murders of his father and stepmother by his stepbrother in their Grass Valley home. In August 2024, the trio recorded the project and built a live show that tells the story of grief, love, and growth over seven days in the house where the murder took place. Why I Like Dead Guys (Earthy Records) is set for release on all digital platforms on March 27.

"Breedlove writes for anybody who's experienced grief—or love or admiration, for that matter. 'Why I Like Dead Guys' suggests that art—in this case, storytelling and music—has the power to perform the psychological reorientation therapy is designed to accomplish. By conjuring the dead, he creates a musical autobiography defined by relationships. He does so communally, or intersubjectively, with musicians he's collaborated with for years. We don't get an explicit story of healing. We get a series of stories that add up to who Breedlove is now."

“'Why I Like Dead Guys' braids grief with gratitude, finding room for humor, tenderness, and joy."

"What came out of the speakers, however, was a luminously detailed, sublimely tender meditation not just on his father’s murder and his tangled relationship with his stepbrother, but on many of the men—and other strong spirits—who Breedlove had encountered throughout his life...Looking back, that tenderness shouldn’t come as such a surprise from someone whose work has been steeped in searing honesty and radical empathy."
